Bergamot is a citrus tree widely cultivated in certain coastal regions of Italy and Sicily. The name bergamot is actually derived from Bergamo, a city in Lombardi, Italy, where commercial use of the tree originated. Bergamot is actually a hybrid, or a cross between orange and lemon trees, with an aroma that’s more orange than lemon. Bergamot is popular both as a scent and a flavoring. You’ll find its distinct, spicy-citrusy flavor as an integral component of cherished foods and beverages such as Earl Grey tea and Turkish Delight. This Middle Eastern confection is one that fans of the book The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe will remember as the sweet treat highly desired by younger brother Edmund. As a scent, bergamot’s subtle citrus/spice aroma is a common addition to many perfumes and cosmetics, and it works extremely well in combination with a wide variety of other essential oils.
Many would describe Bergamot Essential Oil as citrusy, but the complex floral and warm accents is what enhances the aroma. The bright scent of Bergamot is reminiscent of Neroli and Sweet Orange, but with subtler notes. Bergamot oil is extracted from the rinds of citrus fruit (Citrus bergamia) that grow on bergamot trees.
Bergamot Essential Oil may be helpful when used mindfully during periods of depression, sadness or grief.* Unlike other citrus rind essential oils that are commercially available, Bergamot Oil contains Linalyl Acetate, and this can have a calming or soothing effect.* Linalyl Acetate is also present in Lavender Essential Oil and Clary Sage Essential Oil and is the component that significantly contributes to the relaxing properties of these oils.

Benefits of Bergamot
Bergamot is a unique, rare fruit with a treasure trove of positive qualities.
Perhaps even above any of its therapeutic benefits, Bergamot is loved the most for its euphoric aroma.*
This is why Earl Grey tea can be so powerful. Bergamot Essential Oil is equally treasured for its mental benefits as well as its physical benefits.
